In other news, it's petition time again. I hate petitions and the horrible snow doesn't make this process any easier. I work until 5:30 most days, so it's getting dark by that time... it's cold. I'm crabby, and to be honest, a lot of people have no idea how someone gets on the ballot. (It's OK, I didn't have a clue until 3 years ago myself...) I'm circulating petitions for quite a few people, including myself for state committee and Rob Ferguson for state rep in the 58th district. That makes the whole process harder because you have to go to the right houses, hope you can get some signatures and then move on to the next place. With all the petitions, it's taking forever! I think the next couple days will be devoted to Ferg and myself. Really need to make sure he gets on the ballot, we need a good Republican candidate in our district. Our current rep has had little to no competition in all the years he's been in. It's crazy.
I was also lucky enough to get to participate in the winter meeting for the PA Republican State Committee a few weeks ago in Harrisburg. It's always a blast. This time around was a little more exciting because of the possible endorsement. First time I can say in the three years I've gone that I saw protesters at the meeting. The majority of votes went for endorsement for all three statewide offices up this year (US Senator, Governor and Lt. Governor) and after a very VERY long meeting, Pat Toomey was endorsed for US Senator, Tom Corbett for Governor, and Jim Cawley for Lt. Governor. Looks like I was against the establishment all morning...lol. I voted for no endorsement in each of the 3 offices, stood for Sam Rohr for Gov, Peg Luksik for US Sen, and Chet Beiler for Lt. Gov. But in the end, majority rules and it was an open process regardless of the wrangling in the background. Every state committee member is free to vote however they choose. Unfortunately, if they're not taking that opportunity...well... There was some question as to the openess of the process and I have to say that even if there was a push to endorse certain people over others, the committee still voted throughout. The state committee member packets were NOT pre-stuffed with the 3 eventual endorsed candidates petitions like some had said. The petitions were handed out separate of the committee member packets. Now it's on to the voters of our great state to decide who should run in the fall. Peg and Sam are not dropping out, and there are still a few candidates running for Lt. Governor (including Chet Beiler). We shall know the outcome in May. Seems like its coming fast...
Also at the beginning of the year, word came that Roaring Knob was going to be closed this summer unless a buyer or someone to lease the facility was found. A lot of people were so upset, but it was shortlived. 2 weeks after that announcement, a buyer was found! Rick Jones of Cumberland, MD will be the new owner/promoter of the Knob. Looks like I'm going to work for him at this point. I definitely wish him the best of luck, that's a great track. I know mom and Ron are going to enjoy some time off too! In other racing/race track news, no one knew the fate of Motordrome either, but Stan Lasky was able to find some help and will continue to promote the track again this season. So, considering on the 1st day of the year I had no clue how my summer was going to turn out, looks like it's going to be business as usual! Guess that's a good thing!
Well, I'm going to wrap this up. Here's hoping for blue skys and green grass and soon!!!!
